![]() ![]() ![]() For all those interested in an action shooter with one of the largest narrative efforts on the system, however, Extraction is a must-play. There's also the original comic book by the game's writer, Antony Jonston and artist Ben Templesmith (who was responsible for the grisly 30 Days Of Night), which is narrated with some fantastic voice-acting.If that isn't your cup of tea, Extraction won't be able to convince you to love it. Extraction is also a little short on extras aside from the campaign, Extraction comes packaged with a challenge mode, which is a series of paired-down versions of the campaign's main set pieces with more enemies. That having been said, Extraction nails the oppressive atmosphere of the original instalment, and while there's nothing here that'll make players jump out of their seats, there are some tension filled sections and gruesome set pieces to keep horror fans entertained. It's possible that the blood-draining levels of terror that we experienced playing Dead Space may have hardened us against all future horror releases, or simply that we are now too familiar with Extraction's terrain. The game also supports drop-in/drop-out co-op play, which admittedly makes the more overwhelming set pieces easier to deal with.Īnother criticism you could aim at Extraction is that it's a lot less frightening that in its predecessor. Visceral have even added a nice touch to the Ripper's interface which involves using the Wii-Mote to guide the weapon's whirling blade around the screen and pushing forward and back to govern its range and depth. ![]() The soundtrack and animation make the weapons feel varied and – especially in the case of the Line Gun – meaty and lethal. There's also a mêlée attack that's activated by shaking the Nunchuck, but this is more useful in clearing a path through blocked corridors than fending off a pack of necromorphs. The stasis field and reloading are mapped to the C and Z buttons respectively and A employs a Kinesis field for grabbing health packs, ammo and weapons upgrades. Players select weapons with the joystick, fire with the B-button and select any weapon's secondary attack by twisting the Wii-Mote sideways. Right from the start, it's clear that Visceral have done a fantastic job of mapping the Dead Space arsenal to the Wii-Mote and Nunchuck. ![]()
